Case Study 2
Sensory Garden, Cosby Community Library
The Cosby Community Library had the vision of turning the concrete paved area around the Library into a small sensory garden. This provides new seating and garden for the enjoyment of the local community and an educational project for the involvement of local schools. The garden has involved the pruning of existing trees, the removal of most of the existing paving and the creation of a new walkaway to provide access to all areas of the new garden.
Planting has encompassed a herb garden, and extensive body of grasses, shrubs, berry and flowering, to attract insects and birds, and perennials offering scented attraction for birds and other wildlife.
Local schools have been involved in bulb planting of the section of the garden which will provide spring and summer flowering in the first year of the garden in 2024. The Library has established a maintenance team of library volunteers to ensure long term development and growth of the garden.
